## The problem

Adult life is a set of deadlines nobody wrote down together: visa, tax, ID, licence, insurance, registration.

Who it hits: Everyone, above all anyone living abroad.

### The shapes it takes

- Passport renewal lead times and the 6-month entry rule
- Visa and residence permit renewal windows
- Tax filing dates by country
- Reports for foreigners (Philippine annual report, Thai 90-day report)
- ID and driving licence expiry
- Vehicle tax, inspection and insurance
- US citizens abroad

### What this page gives you

Every deadline that applies to you, on one page.

## Where do you live, and what do you hold?

Your dates stay on this device — only the country and ticks go into the address.

## Every standing deadline on this page

## Documents: when to start

- **Renew your passport** — Start 9 months before expiry: many countries refuse entry with less than 6 months left, and the Schengen area wants 3 months beyond your departure.
- **Renew your child's passport** — Children's passports often last only 5 years — same 6-month entry rule.
- **Renew your visa or residence permit** — Apply before it expires, with time for the decision.
- **permitFR** — France: file on ANEF between the 120th and the 60th day before expiry — filing later costs an extra fee and can leave you without proof of stay.
- **permitJP** — Japan: applications are accepted from 3 months before expiry; apply well before — even one day over is an overstay.
- **Extend your stay or leave** — Extend before the last day, or plan your exit — overstaying brings fines and bans.
- **Renew your ID card** — Renew before it lapses — it's often your proof of identity for banks and travel.
- **Renew your driving licence** — An expired licence can void your car insurance.
- **Pay vehicle tax / renew registration** — Driving untaxed or unregistered brings fines.
- **Book the vehicle inspection** — Most countries fine driving without a valid inspection.
- **Renew or switch car insurance** — Compare prices a month ahead — renewal quotes are rarely the best.
- **Thailand 90-day report** — Report within the window (from 15 days before to 7 days after the due date) — online, by post or in person; late reports are fined ฿2,000. Leaving Thailand resets the count.

If a date falls on a weekend or holiday, check whether the next working day applies.
