### Finding a doctor

- FR: Book on Doctolib, or call a pharmacy for the doctor on duty. At night and weekends, call 15 for urgent advice.
- DE: Call 116117 for the on-call doctor service when practices are closed; book practices on Doctolib.
- GB: Call or go online to NHS 111 for urgent advice; walk-in and urgent treatment centres don't need an appointment.
- US: Urgent-care clinics and telehealth are far cheaper than the ER for anything not life-threatening.
- CA: Call 811 in most provinces for nurse advice; walk-in clinics see people without an appointment.
- AU: Call healthdirect on 1800 022 222 for advice; GP clinics and some after-hours clinics take walk-ins.
- NZ: Call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for free advice; urgent-care clinics take walk-ins.
- JP: In some areas, #7119 gives advice on whether to go to hospital. The Japan National Tourism Organization lists English-speaking clinics.
- PH: Private hospitals have outpatient clinics and emergency rooms; many doctors see walk-ins. Your embassy can suggest English-speaking doctors.
- TH: Private hospitals have international departments with English-speaking staff; the Tourist Police (1155) help with language.
- SG: GP clinics and polyclinics take walk-ins; hospital emergency departments are for serious cases.
- ES: Go to the local public health centre (centro de salud); for urgent care, the urgencias department.
- IT: In tourist areas, summer medical services (guardia medica turistica) see visitors; the emergency number is 112.
- IE: GP surgeries see private patients; out of hours, local GP co-ops take calls.

### Rules

- EU: With a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), visitors get public healthcare at the same cost as residents.
- GB: NHS emergency care is free for everyone; some hospital treatment is charged to overseas visitors.
- US: Hospital emergency departments must examine and stabilise anyone with an emergency, whatever they can pay — the bill comes later.
- PH: Hospitals can't demand a deposit or advance payment before giving emergency treatment.
- AU: Visitors from countries with a health agreement (including the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Italy and Norway) get some care through Medicare.
- NZ: Accident injuries are covered by ACC for everyone, including visitors.
- CA: Public health care is for residents; visitors pay in full, so travel insurance matters.
