### United Kingdom passports

GOV.UK의 해외 여권 서비스로 온라인 신청하고, 옛 여권을 영국의 HM Passport Office로 보낸 뒤 새 여권을 특송으로 받습니다. 해외에서는 급행 서비스가 없습니다.

### United States passports

your country of residence의 미국 대사관이나 영사관을 통해 DS-82 양식으로 갱신합니다. 우편, 특송, 직접 방문 중 그 공관이 정하는 방식입니다. 해외 거주자는 온라인 갱신을 쓸 수 없습니다. 마지막 여권이 만 16세 이상일 때, 최근 15년 안에 발급됐고, 지금 손에 있으면 DS-82를 쓸 수 있습니다.

## When to start

만료일에서 거꾸로: 6개월(많은 나라가 그보다 적으면 입국을 막습니다), 최대 처리 기간, 그리고 2주의 여유.

## 무엇을 가져가나요

- 지금 여권.
- 자국 규격에 맞는 여권 사진(대사관에서 직접 찍어 주는 곳도 있습니다).
- 작성한 신청서.
- 요구할 경우, 사는 곳의 주소나 체류 자격 증명(체류 카드, 비자).
- 받는 형태의 수수료 — 많은 대사관이 현지 통화 현금이나 카드만 받습니다.
- 이름이 바뀌었나요? 혼인증서, 이혼 판결문, 법원 결정문 원본을 가져가세요(다른 언어라면 공증 번역과 함께).

## 조심하세요

- 여권을 「급행 처리」하거나 「사전 검토」해 준다며 돈을 받는 사이트 — 급행은 공식 기관만 할 수 있고, 해외에서는 그마저도 대개 불가능합니다.
- 자국 사진 규격을 지키지 않는 사진 부스와 앱 — 사진 반려가 가장 흔한 지연 원인입니다.
- 대사관 앞에서 예약을 잡아 준다며 돈을 받는 「대행업자」.
